I can certainly appreciate the utility of a fuel pressure gauge for diagnostics, but I've seen many of you here find value in allowing it to dictate when you change your fuel filter. I'm curious if this aligns with Ford's rec of every 15k or are you fellers finding your gauge is telling you to change it sooner? Later?
The pressure gauge can definitely tell you if the filter is become a restriction, but at the same time, I still change filters at 10k or so. Filters are cheap, injectors are not…
But I do not drive many miles per year, if I was cranking out miles quickly I may let it go to 15-20.
I usually change it every other oil change. When I try and stretch it to 15k the pressure drops 5-7psi before then. I won't start the camping season below 60psi, seen it drop 10-12psi towing our 5th wheel on steep uphill grades with a new filter. An old filter before a 3-5k mile cross country trip and I'd be changing it on the side of the road instead of at home
my '02 Excursion already had a Wix 24006 PreFilter installed in front of the Fuel Pump when I bought it.
the hoses to it are showing evidence of having been installed for Decades.
we changed out the Fuel Bowl filter and it was squeaky clean,
we could see the bottom of the bowl thru the fuel,
drained the fuel and zip for debris, it was clean, so clean we didn't try to swab it out.
