I've been driving my truck about a year prolly 12000 miles now 1994 f150 ext cab 5.8 trans code E 174,322 miles and it runs perfect love the truck so every now and then when I'm driving usually on cruise it will just rev up like it's in neutral and then slam into gear when it does I shift to neutral and back to drive/overdrive like in 1 second and it's fine may do it again in few minutes may not do it again for a week or 2 or a month other than that it shifts perfect never slips works perfect fluid was checked its like new pumped out a quart added Lucas.it has new goodyear 33x12.50x15 so I calibrated the revs per mile And reset the pain Speedo is correct now never jumps or acts funny I've just drive it because it's really not that big of a nuisance just the thought of what can it be dosent matter if it's 100 degrees outside or -5 wet or dry don't seem to matter and sometimes it will do it as soon as I pull out and sometimes if the truck is warmed up like I said it don't do it all the time I went over 2 weeks and didn't do it the yesterday it did once and not again any ideas as to what I might try to fix it....have not read the codes yet my reader is obd2 and haven't had a need for this one till now also no lights on the dash and the od light on the shifter never has flashed and works as it shoould...
Keep in mind that your manual lever position sensor (MLPS) may be going south and telling the ECU to shift the transmission into neutral.
Another possibility is that your shift linkage is misrigged and just in the edge of the neutral position at the transmission linkage.
Ok I will check them tommrow and post the
mlps may be the problem I'm almost positive the shifter linkage is adjusted right as I thought that and I made sure it was locked down in drive good about every time I get in it....

It doesn't matter how well it's locked into 'drive' at the column. If it's misrigged, the transmission side of the shift cable may not be positively in 'drive'.
