You do know that on resale you will make up that 5K, if not more? As for an Expedition or an Excursuion, I had the same debate going in my head when I got my X. Exterior size difference isnt much, is either vehicle going to be easy or fun to park in the city? Both vehicles will be a compromise in that situation. When towing or hauling gear the X will win every time and the Expedition will be a compromise again. Get the vehicle that poses the least compromises. Size shouldnt really be an issue, they are both big trucks.

Jeb, I was comparing it to the Expedition, but since you brought up a Suburban, yes it has more room that that too

Yeah, it probably will but I'm not convinced it's that big a deal. I never ran out of room packing the 3 'burbs I've owned. It'd be nice if the 2nd row seats folded as flat in the Ex as they did in my 'burbs, too. What an awful design that is by Ford.

I know if I was a miserable about a purchase as you are about your X, I would do something about it. You can get a burb with an engine thats more than capable of towing what the PSD X can. The only remotely positive thing Ive heard you say about your X is that it has a diesel, but even that your unhappy about! Either get over it or sell it and buy what you want.

OK - here is my update.

I made the deal on the 2003 Expedition, and have received confirmation from Ford with the VIN # that the vehicle I am purchasing was indeed built from the plant as a tow vehicle with Triton 5.4 V8, Class 5 hitch, 3.73 limited slip differential, heavy duty rad and heavy duty tranny cooler, etc. So Ford has confirmed that it is highest rated for towing in its class and that I am well within my needs as to towing capacities. The dealer is also putting that on the bill of sale.

I am much relieved to have this finally behind me, and to have made the deal with the other dealership, who I feel, have bent over backwards to be helpful. Even though they are over two hours away, they have brought me the vehicle to try, pre-sold my Explorer, brought it back to me and will come to get it and give me a loaner while they prepare the Expedition and transfer my brake controller over the next few days. I only wish they were closer as their service has been top rate and I wish I could deal with them for service as well.

My old dealership, who sold me the Explorer, ended up boosting the price of the Excursion at the last minute to try to make even more money off of me, so I am really glad I had made the decision to go with the Expedition before they even told me that. They sounded quite shocked when I told them I was no longer interested as I had bought something from another dealer, and even more surprised at the deal itself - so I got a fair amount of satisfaction at hearing them speechless for a change.

I do want to express my deepest gratitude to all of you who have posted advice, opinions and support to me as I struggled with this problem. I took every word very much into consideration as I mulled over the question of my towing needs versus my daily, downtown vehicle needs. I feel very confident that I have made my decision with all the facts before me.

For those of you rooting for the Excursion - I just want to say that I did truly love the vehicle, and will probably end up with one in the future when my towing needs become more serious than they will be in the next couple of years. I feel like I have solved two problems with all your help - my immediate needs solved happily, and the comfort of knowing exactly what my next vehicle will be as my needs change.

Thank you again to all of you. You're just the best.
