real v-10 vs. 7.3 fuel mileage in an Excursion
Hello. I am writing today because I have been wanting to buy an Excursion for a long time. Price, among other things has been the main reason I haven't yet. But now I have decided to part with 1 or maybe 2 of my other trucks to afford and make room for an Excursion. I've seen some other posts talking about which is better diesel or gas but there wasn't anything really written about actual m.p.g. My question for everyone out there is I would like to know if I could get some good feedback on what actual mileage you can get with an Excursion with the v-10 and the 7.3. I'm only looking for highway mileage under normal driving conditions. This would help me greatly in making my decision. I plan on using this vehicle occasionally and once a year taking my 76 f-250 show truck to Indianapolis for the four wheel jamboree. Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Strictly highway:
7.3L Excursion empty - Flat terrain I have achieved 20mpg and hilly terrain I get 18.5mpg
I do not pull with the Ex, no numbers there.
6.0L F250 empty - Flat terrain 18.6mpg and hilly terrain 16.9mpg.
6.0L F250 pulling 8k - Flat terrain 13.9mpg and hilly terrain 12mpg
Highway speed is 68-70mph. Both trucks are automatics, 4x4's, and 3.73's.
Around town the 7.3L Excursion avg 15mpg in the summer and 14.2mpg in the winter. The 6.0L around town averages 13.5mpg in the summer and 12.5mpg in the winter.
*edit*All numbers hand calculated.
Cheers

My mixed city/hwy and all hwy has been pegged on the overhead console at 14.5 since Ive owned it, but if I reset it it does move but ends up there after some time. It is 2001 7.3 auto with stock tires, I do not know the gear
pulling a 24ft car trailer FL to OH I get 9.5 going north and 10.5 coming south both at minimum 70-75mph. same trailer at 65 I can get up to 12mpg because it almost never has to downshift
forgot to say, mine is also a 4X4
