Really need some info here. 2000 X.

Could everyone - anyone with a 2000 X take a look at the rear axle and advise where your brake calipers are situated? Mine are in the rear of the axle on the passenger side and in FRONT on the axle with a shield on the driver's side.

This information is critical to determine what after market appplications can be made and those that cannot.

All information appreciated very much. Thank you in advance.

Could you be a little more specific as to what you're looking for? Forgive me, but I'm not sure what you mean by the brake calipers.

The rotors ( routinely referred to as disc's ) are the round shiny parts of your brakes on the inside of each wheel assembly. They rotate with the wheel.

The brake caliper assembly is stationary and saddles each of the rotors. It contains the brake pistons and brake pads which apply pressure for function when you use your brakes.

If you have a 2000 X and can identify the position of your calipers on the rear rotors it would be greatly appreciated.

My stupid follow up....
Mine are in the rear of the axle on the passenger side and in FRONT on the axle with a shield on the driver's side.
Yours are not both on the rear side of the axle ?? Just the passenger side unit ??

Thanks emtabmm. More please.

Yes that is correct - my passenger side rear caliper assembly is behind the axle. The driver's side rear caliper is in FRONT of the axle with a steel shield integrated into the mounting - from the factory.

2000 Excursion XLT Premium 4X4 with off road package. Manufacture date December 1999. Weird stuff huh?

I have a 2000 XLT 4X4 manf. in 10-99. The rear caliper on the drivers side is FWD of the axle with the shield and the passenger side is BEHIND the axle, no shield.
Hope this helps. This may be an overlooked difference between model years, not mentioned here before. At least I don't remember any posts on this before. Odd but curious

It seems Ford made a mid-year change on the 2000 model. Interestingly weird that they did this ... then again, it was their 1st year. I bet if anyone goes to buy an emergency brake cable, they'll cause quite a headache with the parts-counter-person.

Ahh - so we move forward. Let's figure out when Ford went to matching rear calipers behind the axle. Thanks for all the input.
