Hello - I am new to the world of classic Ford truck ownership. I have one of these (black box with the slider control) on my recently purchased 1972 F250 390 4v and while trying to identify it's purpose, I found another picture of one on the web, so it looks like it may have been Ford or dealer supplied. The red indicator light does light up but when I slide the controller, it seems to do nothing.
3X on trailer brake controller. While trailering a correct trailer, the slide is for the driver to be able to apply the trailer's brakes separate from the truck's brakes.
New types are all electric but older styles were tapped into the brake hydraulic lines. Look on ebay for kelsey-hayes brake controllers, to give you a clearer idea of them.
