Hey all quick question, 23 f350 dually diesel pulling roughly 16k 5th wheel. Trailer is 2 years old maybe 4-5k miles. Trailer breaks set on 10 and still seems to push truck when heavy breaking. Do these need adjusted or replaced a certain amount of miles? Thanks
First, make sure you have the brake controller settings on the dash on high then try with the gain at 4. I have a 2022 DRW gas with a 17k lb 5th wheel and my brake controller is set to high and 4.5 gain. If I stand on my brakes my trailer brakes will lock up. I just replaced them with Dexter brakes around March and adjusted them properly/seated the shoes properly. Just checked 2 weeks ago and they are still adjusted properly. 5th wheel came with nev-r-adjust brakes and all 4 self-adjusters let loose so I replaced with manually adjustable brakes.
If I turn my gain above 5 my trailer starts bucking when I hit the brakes because it is slowing down faster than the truck. There is something wrong with your trailer brakes if they aren't helping slow you down on 10. Either power level is too low or brakes aren't adjusted properly.
Guessing you have a manual brake control ? Have you pulled that while moving slowly? Should grab hard enough to stop you without touching the truck brake pedal. If not, make sure brake power is getting to the trailer.
Agree with inspecting brakes, repack bearings and adjust brakes but first make sure you're getting brake power to the trailer.

First I would check and make sure your controller is set for electric and not electric over hydraulic. Next jack up each wheel and have someone spin it and use manual slider to make sure each wheel stops, at the same time check to see if brakes are adjusted properly, just to slight drag.
