Bleeding clutch hydraulics

Hey fellas! I’m going to do the heim joint mod on my clutch pedal and I even found a braided stainless steel hose to upgrade the one I have now. Had a few questions.

I need to pull the master out so I can weld on the heim joint. What’s the best way to get these dang roll pins out of the master and slave? I need to bleed the whole thing as well but I’m worried about stripping the bleeder in the plastic slave…. is my vacuum bleeder the way to do it? I’ve heard bleeding these can be a pain. I’d buy the pre-bled unit but where I have the ZF5 I can’t.

Any pointers would be appreciated!

Truck is an E99 with a ZF5 swapped in. Thanks,

Andrew

fill master
push slave fully and let extend ten times
install slave

It does, similar to the slave in the transmission housing.

Well that was easy…. I just kept my stock hose, tacked on the heim joint and didn’t have to bleed anything.

So my pivot point was completely shot and this was an upgrade I learned about back when I owned an earlier model F-series.

Clutch action is much-much better now. Sweet.

You can get the rod out of the little locks on the master cylinder. I use the plastic middle part of a ball point pen. Cut couple inch off the slice it long way and slide it over the rod and push it down in and it will push the lock tabs out. Have to work with it a little though.

Any pictures of the finished product before installation? Also, do you recall the source for the heim joint for the sake of future readers?

You can get them from multiple sellers on ebay. I did it to mine probably 8 years ago if not longer.

Dang I should have taken more pics. You basically cut the circle off of the master cylinder push rod and then slide the heim joint onto the shaft. It comes with a set screw but a tack weld is going to hold it a lot better in the long run.

Not sure if the heim will slide onto the pedal pin…. Mine was farmerized so I already had a hole drilled for a bolt. If that makes sense?

Google ‘OBS clutch heim’ and it’s the first thing that pops up. Hope this helps. Thanks again,

Andrew

Im going to have to check this. Im having to pedal to the floor, and having trouble shifting from parked.... figured the pilot bearing, but maybe this is a contributing factor....

Here is the solution that Timmyboy76 came up with a couple years ago. I never got around to doing this even though I have the parts in a bag in the garage. That seems to be a theme around here for us on the FTE...
