I have a1989 ford L8000 with a long nose .I dont have a hydraulic resorvoir tank for the dump truck. How do Icheck the hydraulic level . The dump only goes 1/2 way up.
The rod end of cylinder is reservoir. Will be plug on top at end, It can be easily over filled.
Should still be a small reservoir somewhere as the rod end doesn’t hold as much fluid as the piston end
My Williams system has a small tank the pump is mounted in
Another hoist we had used a pipe in the subframe for the reservoir
Follow the oil lines from the pump
If there is no tank then it is the cylinder with a plug at the top end. With a small funnel engine running PTO on add hydraulic oil and the body will start to creep up, add more oil until body goes all the way up until it stops. If to much oil, don't worry you will get poor mans rust proofing LOL cause there is or should be a small pin hole in the plug a vent hole over filled and the oil will squirt out.....................
Thanks guys. I was able to get the dump up enough to get a look and get a good idea ,could not have done it with out your help. I see my pump leaks a lot i even took some pictures.I will follow up in a couple days. Every body be safe

X2 on being safe working on a hoist. Double up any braces you use to make sure that bed doesn't come down while you are under there......
Thanks guys, because of your help. Iam able to face in the right direction to figure out which way to proceed. I have a 1990 Ford L8000 long hood. The dump box goes 1/4 way up. The hydraulic system has no reservoir tank. The shaft driven PTO leaks. Maunufactured by Perfectio Cobey division of Lockwood Corp.in Gering,NE. Manufacture of Jobhandler products Model # 825 or PCHD 106 serial # 892668PH or 894657PH.These numbers are from old notes I have, I cant find any tags on the cyclinder, dump box only number on the pump is cast in pump # 153603,unless i have to remove pump to see tag.The cyclinder has 2 plugs ,1 large plug on the end cap where piston comes out.2nd plug very small on top of the cyclinder nera the end cap.How do I fill it with hydraulic fluid , do I remove large plug to the top, do I remove both plugs andl fill large plug til it comes out the small plug. What type of hydraulic fluid does it require
This might be a bit tedious but they have a search function (from which I have been able to find nothing....), a search by size, a technical library and other reference materials.
If the pump is leaking you'll have to take it off anyway, so maybe there will be more info visible.
Do you have a hydraulic shop near you that works on this stuff? It might cost you some money but otherwise you have a paperweight.....
I would guess on hydraulic fluid similar to that used by farm tractors.
How far to fill? Add a gallon and see what happens.
BLOCK THAT BED DOUBLE GOOD, then pull the topmost plug. If fluid runs out everywhere, try another one.
Add a gallon or half gallon at a time until you can make it go all the way up.
Keep in mind if you have a leak your fluid is going to be wasted, so maybe first things first on the pump seal.
