Why? They cost as much as the correct ones for your truck. When I needed plug wires I looked around and never found a good report on aftermarket wires for this application. The revised MC ones are the ticket
Just an aftermarket part, no real harm in the discussion. Ford parts may be better but that isn't always the case.
There are several "discussions" on this subject already out there. Many have made the mistake and had to go back to factory wires. Nobody said there was any "harm" but I can tell you there is no point to it. Extremely rare to see parts "better" than factory because no aftermarket company has the R&D budget the factory does. Aftermarket companies use "marketing" instead of quality to sell you parts.
Another thing to consider when installing aftermarket wires on the 7.3 would be the possible cat damage a misfire could cause. This is true with the factory wire also. We need to put the latest updated wire to try and prevent cat damage.

Motorcraft now is delivering more competitive pricing and improved parts availability to customers following an extensive review aimed at improving the parts purchase and repair experience for dealers, distributors, repair shops and ultimately, the end customer.
“We are listening to our customers and taking significant steps to give them what they want,” said Marc Liskey, manager, Repair Product Planning Maintenance & Light Repair, North America. “Offering competitive pricing and consolidating parts will make it easier to stock and sell Motorcraft parts, helping dealers, distributors and installers to do their job more effectively and improving customer satisfaction in the process.”
Despite proven quality advantages, independent shops sometimes opt for cheaper, non-Ford and non-Motorcraft parts when servicing out-of-warranty vehicles. Lesser quality parts can reduce customer satisfaction and the shop’s bottom line when the vehicle has to come back due to part defect or failure.
But I'm betting there have been times when even Ford engineers have been impressed by something that they didn't research and develop, even enough to incorporate it into the product, since they are always looking for optimizations. So that is why we have the aftermarket.
