Yeah, I’d seen the threads on Tremor forum about 7.3 plug wires and got two “C” versions a while back as spares. Common failure is #2 cylinder but there’s been reports of #3 failing too. Keep one in the truck. Also got a OBDLink MX+ bluetooth adapter and Forscan Lite on my phone (as well as OBDLink app) so I can read codes in case it ever happens on the road somewhere. Cheaper adapters can be had, but that one fits other use cases I have besides just reading DTC’s.
I might pick up a cheap code reader just for reading and resetting if I end up on the road away from home a lot going forward. Seems like I am likely too so... Hopefully the D revision just plain solves the problem. I did make it 71k miles though before having one fail. Hopefully with a fresh set on I wont have to worry about it for a long time. I will just keep the one new extra, the old ones are going in the trash.
Lots of "hope" I know... Hope for the company that sent a recall notice for not having enough description in the owners manual on how to use your headrest...lol
I will say that I’ve got a Veepeak OBDCheck BLE Bluetooth OBD II Scanner ($30 on Amazon) that we use for our dirt bikes. It’s not listed as an approved / certified adapter on Forscan site, but I tried it on my truck and was able to read DTC’s with it using Forscan. I didn’t try it with any other apps in the truck, as I was just curiously playing around to see if it would read the DTC’s. Just my experience, YMMV
I wanted to keep it in the garage dedicated for the dirt bikes and wanted the added, confirmed functionality with Forscan on my phone, so got the OBDLink MX+ to keep in the truck and use with phone if needed on the road. I use the OBDLink EX (usb) adapter for all regular laptop Forscan use.
Not sure what Rock Auto would send, just lists WR6170
My emergency replacement was $42 with tax at my local dealer 30 miles away. The ones I ordered at Rock Auto were $19 ea and the same thing as mentioned above..
The rest of my wires came today from Rock Auto. I installed them and have one new spare still. I checked the wires coming off and going back on for resistance. The ones coming off were 1800-2300 OHM and the new ones were 2800-3400. The truck seems to idle a but smoother even with the original plugs.
Seems like quite a difference in resistance...I forget what is 'normal'.
If the originals started where the news ones came in they lost around 1/3 of their resistance. I think the resistance is mostly built in to stop interference with the radio and other electronics. I do not think it plays much into the performance.
I saw a Ford dealer today and swung in. They had one of the D plugs in stock so I got it using Ford Pass points. 11,350 ($56.75) points for 1 spark plug wire. Ridiculous.

Damn, I just picked up a set of “D”s from rock auto for $19 each.
I know they're cheaper on Rockauto but full-time RVing and avoiding campgrounds makes receiving mail a challenge sometimes. I order oil in cases of 6-1 gallon jugs and I bought a case of 12 oil filters because it can be months before I am somewhere I can receive mail.

Good reason to shop dealer parts store. Using the points helps with the price.
