Fuel Bowl

To make the fuel pump run without cranking to fill the fuel bowl you apparently jumper the "I' solenoid terminal with the battery + post.

Is that with the ignition key on or off?

You have a carburetor with an electric fuel pump? Would you mind telling us what you are working on?

if it’s a 460 with an in tank electric fuel pump it does not matter if the key is on or off.

Thank you. It is an '85 F250 7.5L with HOLLEY 4180.
I have same problem as someone else had on this Forum. Won't start until crank and crank and pushing accelerator. Finally starts and runs rough until excessive gas is consumed. Diagnosed as fuel bowl leaks down and doesn't fill until fuel pump runs by cranking., Hard on starter motor!

I have the same carb and motor. 10 to 15 seconds with the jumper wire should fill the fuel bowls and make for much easier cold starts after sitting for a while.

My Jeep has a mechanical pump so I remove the air cleaner to fill the fuel bowl.

Terminal

Somebody said there is no "I" terminal on an '85 as it was changed with the electronic ignition.

Mine looks like the old Ford standby solenoid with 2 large terminals and 2 small. 2 small ones disappear into a wire bundle

I think the lower stud is the I terminal. Based on my 86' 302EFI. It's not used on my truck. But I seem to recall reading that was the I terminal.

You can see the I below the stud.

Your solenoid (start relay) can have it depending on what model relay someone used. None of these trucks used the I terminal unless you have a truck originally equipped with a 460 and the hot fuel handling option.
