My new to me '62 F250 hood is too far forward on the driver's side. It appears that one of the DS hinge arms is in the wrong position (too far back).. Anyone else had this issue and any ideas to rectify the problem. It looks like I might be able the pry it back into position. Or would I have to remove the spring, get the arm back into proper position and then re-attach the spring? Thanks for any assistance.
Suggest try posting a few photos, might get you more specific help. Meanwhile, I don’t know why you can’t just loosen the mounting bolts and shift the DS of the hood rearward.
Thanks,
I don't think the issue is with the mounting of the hinge to the body or hoss. I think the problem is that one of the hinge lever arms got pushed backward somehow and needs to move forward. Truckhas sat for many years. I think some unknowing person forced a stiff hood open (no lubrication in a long time) and then tried to force it back closed.
Here are some pics of how the hood sits. I think the issue is with the DS hinge. The inner lever arm that has the front attachment for the spring seems to be positioned further back (too far back) than the passenger side. It is not a mirror image of the passenger side hinge. Open to ideas. Thanks.
Passenger side hinge seems to be working properly PS side Driver's side-Notice how the piece that attaches to the spring and curved upper arm (going to piece that bolts hinge to hood) is not in the same position as PS. DS head on pic. See the piece in the middle is located further back than the PS.
The drivers side hinge has pivoted past it's stops. I've taken your passengers hinge (which to me looks newer than the drivers side) and added arrows to show the two stops. The upper one plays a bigger role. You probably can pry the one piece back, but if it happened and if it allows you to pry it back then the rivets are likely worn too much, and it will most likely happen again. Dynacorn now makes replacement hood hinges for our trucks. They don't come with springs and as far as I've seen they only sell them in sets. That or NOS is the best way to go in my opinion. NOS passengers side are available from NPD but they want near $500 for one. NOS drivers side may be tough to come by. Good used probably easier to find.
Thanks for the info and pointing out the stops. I hadn't noticed them before. Guess I have nothing to lose by trying to pry it back into position. I don't think prying on the hinge will damage the hood and since the hinge is already worn/damaged, I don't think I can do much on the way of further damage. I'll try to get a pry bar and persuade it back into the correct position. The out of position and unclosed hood is driving my wife crazy. If I can get properly shut she'll be happier!
I bought a '54 F100 and this F350 cab/chassis came with it. I don't have any plans for it(too many other projects) so I'm not wanting to put a lot of money into before I decide whether to keep it or not.
