got the replacement electrical block for the drivers side door. brought over all the wires from the broken one and soldered the replacement wire for the door lock that had
been foobarred. door will lock on drivers side but will not unlock. passengers side works properly. so...progress but not there yet. is the switch something that can
be repaired but is that a fruitless exercise?
took the switch apart...,cleaned the contacts good on the brass spring connector that the rocker on the switch is supposed to depress when you hit the unlock button. Don't think it is making
sufficient contact...perhaps the points are worn...wonder if I put the 1/2 of the switch onto the plastic piece exposing the pins and use a flathead screwdriver to push the 2 contacts together
would be a good test here??
ok, tested with the open contacts in the switch...no rocker installed. works! can lock/unlock fine. so it's the plastic nib that when you depress the unlock is not making sufficient travel to
depress the brass plate to break the switch contacts. added some JB-weld to the 2 plastic pieces ...once it hardens I'll use the dremel to smooth it into shape like it was but higher.
hopefully that fixes it.
I'll bet you a dollar that the PO had taken that wire off and soldered it to the post thinking that was the problem all along....when it was the switch contact not being made.
issue was with the contacts inside the switch on the side performing the unlock. they were dirty. I cleaned them with a bit of sandpaper (top/bottom). works proper again.
