drivers side door lock

I have a problem with my drivers side door lock. To make a long story short, after an ice/snow storm, I went to unlock my door and heard a pop. Since then, the door lock has not worked. Just got around to pulling the door panel off, and have figured out the situation. There is a small rod that runs from the key assembly to the locking mechanism. This rod is no longer attached to the actual key assembly. Seems to be a slot or area where the rod end would fit into, but doesn't. Does anyone have any tips for re-connecting? Am I missing something? Anyone had this happen to their Bronc?

Thanks for any help...

It should just re-connect, unless something cracked off. From the loud sound that you described, that may have happened. It should be self-explanatory where the rod re-attaches, just line it up to the cylinder and put it in the hole.

What year is it? You may need a replacement bellcrank on the lock cylinder - the later ones were plastic. Look in the bottom of the door for the piece that popped off.
