So let me try this again....did your last truck have a tailgate step? The reason I ask is because if your last truck did have the step and this one does not, that would be a much more plausible reason for a noticed difference in weight and effort on closing. Like I said, you would be the first person I have ever heard of to claim the damper causes an increased difference in effort on closing, so much so that you advise against it.

Ford hasn't changed the damper, sorry to let you down, and the fact that the OP's truck has the remote tailgate release means it should have come with the damper installed. Like Deadbuck(OP) posted, it was not installed correctly on assembly.
Who's going to bother talking about it? Who cares really. The difference in force isn't a huge outrages one but is very noticeable. Any gas shock or spring will have resistance going back to reset. Ask the wife especially. So one can't say there isn't any difference in a tailgate with or without one. Most don't know of both worlds or had many differeent F250 gats over the years to compare.
My 2016 Lariet had a tailgate step as well with out the power release and no gas shock. That closed easy as well. Both the 2019 had the tailgate step as does the 2024. Never damaged or installed after new or what ever. Go to a lot and close both options for these gates. Both with tailgate steps.
I'm loving this 2024 over that 2019 Lariet alot. Finding out about the tailgate was a bonus. In the way it's easier to shut and also no power button but has a handle. It does lock with power only when doors lock. Couldn't stand the power release button at all. Tailgate would freeze to the tonneau cover often here in NH and no handle to give a yank. So I had to put a strap on the inside and close the gate with it sticking out so I could open it. Not to mention all the times I had to take the gate off /then on and only to find the gate wouldn't drop because I unplugged the 4 connectors underneath the truck first. I never used the fob to let it down anyway. Again it was a bonus to find the gate had a handle and had no power unlock. I will have to check to see if I can use the key to unlock it tomorrow in case of hardwarefailure now that I'm thinking about it.
Loved my Lariet F 350's in 2001,2002,2008,2011,2016 and now love this 2024 but soon disliked the 2019 from day one. Only good thing is it didn't break down leaving me stranded 2800 miles away or at 2 am on a work trip out of state.
