Electronic Tailgate Requires Two Pushes

I have a 21 lariat with the electronic tailgate feature. Has a new little “feature” where it takes two pushes for the tailgate to open. First push doesn’t open then have to wait a couple seconds and it opens on the second push.
Any one else experience this as well? Thinking something needs to be adjusted with the locking mechanism. Figured I would ask around before dissembling the tailgate.
Thanks!

probably to combat the prior issues and recall of unintended tailgate deployment. Plenty of people had tailgates fixed / replaced under warranty because of it.

To clarify this occurs when pushing the button on the tailgate, button in cab, or button on fob.
seems to happen consistently every time when pushing button on tailgate tho.

Key fob has always been 2x. It even has it on the fob. As for the dash button. My 2020 is one push and keypad on door still Is code plus 5 one time.

Do you have a tonneau cover? My old BakFlip on my Ram would sometimes interfere with the tailgate dropping and need a hand. The new one on the Ford doesn't seem to have that problem though.

I have a tonnopro. I’ll give it a shot with it opened and see if that makes a difference.
Regarding everyone else responding on how to open the tailgate, I am fully aware of how to operate the tailgate correctly. Appreciate everyone’s responses.
