While my previous mechanic was diagnosing a problem, he broke the air filter housing and finding the cover part I need is unfortunately next to impossible. According to my mechanics, I need to replace the whole system to get moving again. They are extremely unhelpful in recommending an aftermarket system. And I am completely useless in all things truck knowledge... all I know is when it runs, I can tow my horses and mules. Any how, best options, recs? Thank you in advance! Pics of what I'm working with.
Didnt believe me on the 6637 in the previous thread? JK. The Original air box is prone to cracking, as you can see. Sometimes it cracks and you dont know it. Then you ingest dust. That is called dusting a 7.3 Powerstroke and there are a lot of them. Chews up the turbo and more importantly your cylinder walls and rings causing loss of compression. Just put "dusted 7.3 Powerstroke" into your most favoritist search engine. Nothing wrong with the 6637 mod works good, proven for decades and its affordable.
I have trashed at least 4 stock air boxes. I dont save them and I dont feel bad about it even. 6637 from riffraff is the go to. Much better than stock in lots of ways.
@montgomerycowgirl- Never easy to find these parts. I have been looking for the intake tube in your bottom picture for about 2 months now with no luck anywhere.
I just got hose clamps and 4" corrugated plastic dust collector tubing, with 6637 filter laying on some foam strips where the old filter box used to be. Very minimalist.
