Injector cup swap, Drain coolant?

My buddy is coming down tomorrow with an injector cup puller, and just called and said to drain the coolant out of the truck because when we pull the cups coolant will leak into the cylinders.

I've done a lot of reading on here about injector replacement, and never came across this when changing cups was mentioned.

Im not really prepared for this and am wondering if he is correct?

Thanks

Yes he is. You need to drain the radiator and pull the two plugs in the block to completely drain the coolant.

Got all the stuff for oil change anyway, do I change the oil before initally starting it after injectors go in?

as for the drain plugs in the block.....I see a 6pt like 9/16 plug above the starter, and on the drivers side i see a plug that takes a 1/4 inch drive and one that takes a 3/8 drive.

Is this the correct on above the starter? which one is it on the drivers side.

Why, in this case?

Seems silly to me. Won't draining the radiator ensure water level is below the heads?

X2 I don't see a need drain all the coolant. Just drain from the petcock into a bucket so you can reuse it if you wish.

Jim I think Nate meant that if one wanted to drain all the coolant to pull the block plugs.

Yes you should. When I did mine I was surprised how much coolant was in the pan.

for future reference, it’s the quarter inch plugs on the block for the coolant. I did my cups before draining these plugs and there a ton of coolant in the crank case, draining from the radiator won’t get the coolant out of the block because the water pump blocks it from coming back to the radiator I think but don’t quote me. All I know is it stays in the block and you gotta get it out unless you wanna do an oil change. I know the threads old but I know someone out there is bound to make the same mistake I did and I even ran the truck with coolant in the crankcase because I didn’t know, took 3 oil changes before it was cleaned up.
