2008 f250 with 6.4 dual batt setup,,: starter went bad, after figuring it out, had to chang on ground of rock driveway, all good started up drove for at least a week, then was able to lift on a rack so I could tighten that top bolt better, big mistake ,,, I didn't disconnect the battery , got a arc when attempting and then wouldn't start, have changed out starter twice now and I'm only getting a click when attempting to start, last starter change I'm pretty sure I was getting a spark when attaching the negative cable... need some good ideas...
Down to old school troubleshooting. How are all the ground connectors ?
Take a set of jumper cables. Hook the positive and negative clamps on your battery (+ - ). Take the other ends and clamp the ground to the housing of the starter and touch the positive clamp to the post going into the starter. What happens ?
after the 3rd starter I replaced, I am getting a spark when hooking up the negative cable, so actually am right now cautious about rebooking battery before I think this thru completely, or get some taught, getting the jumper cables underneath the truck would be a huge challenge... thanks for the taught, will think about that
I just ordered the positive rh cable that also has starter wiring, I was going to replace prior to my issues, and see if that helps, since initial problem came from me sparking the wires when trying to tighten that top bolt, keep you guys posted.... if anyone has any other ideas please let me know.. always appreciated
update still need help; I traced the spark with a test light, basically figured out after disconnecting loom going to starter still didn't affect the TestFlight when checking between battery negative and battery negative cable end..... I found disconnecting the red cable that runs to loom going to fuse box on passenger side floor, light did not illuminate, checked some fuses but have not found issue yet, need any good ideas please
