ok heres my deal... i went out the other morning to start my truck and it turned over about 5 times and it quit. so i made sure my cables are tight and i tryed it again...same thing again. but since then it won't do anything. i'm pretty sure its the starter cuz its been draggin for a while but i just wanted to get some other opinions. thanks
go to ebay search for 6.9l starter find a seller named 14rebuilders
they have a new aftermarket gear reduction starter that replaces the original starter
i replaced mine a few weeks ago and this starter spins the engine about three times as fast as the original and really helps eliminate hard starting
it was only about $125.00 including shipping
i say you should buy the aftermarket high torque starter for the idi it cost about the same as the factory but it cranks a hole lot faster, mine died not to long ago but i didnt have the money to buy a starter and alternator so i bought a re man alternator and i took 2 junk starters and i built one and its working fine so far
I bought one from DB electric.. the first one was no good, they sent me out another quickly and that one worked great.. paid about 115.00 with shipping
i thought i was gonna be buying another starter then i checked the two scews on the starter solenoid and they were loose.so i tightened them up and problem solved and mine was doing the same thing your describing
