I got a 03 6.0 that I just replaced both the icp and Ipr valve after it broke done on me. Right after those I had to throw a new trans in it. Just finished this weekend and and now under low throttle the smoke that comes out the back is crazy(all black). It seems to barely have any power and I. The freeway it doesn’t seem to go passed 65. I don’t know if this would be a injector problem, because of all of the fuel it is getting or if I am having a turbo issue with it not spoiling enough boost. Anyways any ideas would be very appreciated. I’m still in high school and I already put way to much money into this truck in the last month which I don’t have and can’t really avoid for a shop to make up some bull**** or say they don’t know what’s wrong with it. Anything helps thanks
VGT is plugged in. I unplugged to see if the veins were sticking which I believe they aren't. I will have to check the MAP and MAF tomorrow so my mom aint yelling at me for working on the truck this late. Both the ICP and IPR are Carquest Premium since that's all advanced auto sells
Check that your CAC boots are not leaking. More likely to come lose on the hot side coming out of the turbo, but can also develop cracks/leaks near to lower cold boot and you might not have tightened the upper cold boot. Not sure if the 03 had the plastic CAC tubes, but they're the worst about cracking under the lower cold boot. Go to a dismantler and buy some used steel tubes and boots. Get the whole set up at Pick-u-Part cheap.
Don't worry, the guys here will figure this out for you - these are common symptoms with a finite number of solutions and easy repairs. You'll want to check your EBP tube and sensor aren't clogged, and that the MAP hose and inlet into the valve cover are not clogged. If you download free Forscan for PC, it allows you to command the turbo on and off, which lets you confirm the wiring connections are good. Confirm your air filter is good.
After driving it last night the gauge cluster started to freak along side with the radio shutting off and the headlights would flicker. Once I got home the whole cluster went out along with the windows and radio. I have read that these clusters have a relay that go bad in them but can a bad cluster make the whole motor run like ****?
Hmm, my IC is acting strange too, but it doesn't affect the headlights. It seems like the headlights are on a separate circuit because I've never had anything mess with them except a full battery drain or bad terminal connection/ground. But, IDK. The common thing for a cluster flub is to mess with the tranny - it loses connectivity to TCM and goes into failsafe mode, 3rd and 5th gears only. Your data monitor should tell you what gear you're in.
I like using Ford parts price may not be as low as the other online dealers but there is no shipping fees in you select pickup at local dealer in your account. Normally next day or 2nd day pickup. A few times if ordered early I've got parts the same day, depending on part. https://parts.ford.com/shop/en/us?ca...FIwOvsHuwss%3D
I thought this was a ground wire but after cleaning it off it doesn’t seem like it would be. I am having trouble tracing it because the exhaust leak I had made everything black. Any ideas what this goes to and is for?
@bismic I should be able to throw a scanner on it tomorrow. What exactly should i be looking for. Im not to knowledgeable when it comes to using those. Thanks for all of the help by the way.
I am glad to help and I appreciate the last post. You had 3 solid recommendations for a scan tool, so I decided to push. I appreciate your reaction to my pushing.
I understand maybe not knowing about scan tools, but they are really pretty easy today. Especially for young folks.
If you have a smartphone, you download the app (ForScan Lite is probably the way to begin for you).
Then, you buy an OBDII adapter to fit your device (iOs or Android), Plug it into the truck OBDII port, and then activate the adapter on your device. It will all be self explanatory. If not, there are lots of us here to continue to help. We hate to see people in trouble and low on money, but often times that situation is a choiuce.
We can't guarantee that codes will help, but it is a HUGE start (benefit) when you have a powerful program like ForScan Lite.
I posted the links to the website information on it.
If you do not want to spend (splurge) $85 on the best adapter (OBDLink MX+), the BAFX adapters will work fine enough. You can get them on Amazon. WiFI for iOs, and BlueTooth for Android. We can post a link to one that you need - if you need us to.
In the meantime, tell us if you still have an EGR system that is active.
If the EGR system IS still active, have you ever pulled the EGR valve and cleaned it?
I bought it studded and egr deleted. My girlfriends dad either has a matco or snapon scan tool i should be able to get to use tomorrow. Would that work or do I need one that connects to the phone? Also, that picture above, Do you know what that wire would be for? I was told to check my grounds which that looked like one, until i cleaned it and it became red.
