High mileage 7.3L engines

8 worn out plugs. The tech diagnosed 5 of them as probably weak spark. Intermittent misfires can happen. Extended weak spark and intermittent misfires will load up the cats. Also extended misfires will wash cylinders and fuel dilute the oil Everything I posted explains why all the things went wrong with your truck. Lack of maintenance
If you believe your guy only drove 3 miles with a misfire you are trusting the wrong guy to use your vehicle. just saying

Truck ive never seen before comes into the shop in that condition with the original plugs it gets the Hail Mary treatment as we all bow our heads and wait for it to expire.

I posted an explanation as well stating expired plugs can lead right to what happened. I can only imagine how many misfiring cylinders this poor engine was dealing with while it was forced those 3 miles to the dealership after it finally started running rough enough for someone to even pay attention to it. The imbalance of it all just smashing that poor rotating assembly and valvetrain along with the oil pump being erratically driven by the lugging rotating assembly.

My cat fell off . On my 86 E350 I had the cat removed because I blew the Y-pipe out 3 times in 3 summers. After that I used it for 2 more years without a problem with the exhaust and it still looked good when I sold it.

460s and EEC-IV tend to run on the lean side to begin with and I always run copper core plugs and change at 20-30k mile intervals. They are less than $20 for 8 so it isnt breaking the bank and my engine bay is so open I can get to all 8 with just a ratchet, 6" extension and spark plug socket.

As long as you change the oil and don't beat the snot out of them they will last forever. I had to replaced every inch of rubber under the hood because everything was dry rotting. The boots on my ball joints and tie rods were dry rotting even though I greased them regularly so I replaced all my steering parts before they wore out but 28 years and 110k miles and the parts aren't worn out they just succumb to the elements.

The 460 used to run circles around the 7.3s and then it flipped after they ditched the 460. My 5.4 in my 2005 F250 was gutless and got terrible fuel economy. My 94 F150 4x4 with a 351w got better fuel economy all around than my 5.4. I just wish Ford would have put out Godzilla power number from the 460s in the 90s.

My 2022 F350 7.3L died at 30K miles. Lost compression in multiple cylinders, started with what felt like hard shifting but was actually misfires. Then rough idle, then tapping noises. Ford replaced the whole engine and gave me an additional 75k mile warranty and reimbursed me for some expenses of being stranded. Amazing, but fingers crossed it doesn't happen again.
One tech told me that the oil injection ports were machined too small causing this failure, wondering if anyone else has heard this. Will there be a recall?
