Ticking from engine

Ticking from engine

Hey all been driving my 91 f250 7.5 gas 4x4 now as a daily driver for a week. Noticed this morning there is a ticking noise coming from the engine on passenger side. Any ideas? The sound is in sync with the the RPMs. So when I give it more throttle the ticking noise speeds up.
I pulled codes and got the following.

Could be a leaking or cracked exhaust manifold, or a stuck hydraulic lifter that's not pumping up. Could also be a AIR injection pump that is failing.

I think you may be onto something with the exhaust manifold. Wondering about degree of difficulty to replace this?

Exhaust manifolds are pretty easy. The gasket is cheap. Just make sure you soak the fasteners overnight with pb blaster before you get started. The bolts have a tendency to snap off when trying to remove them.

Does the gasket work with the original manifold? So far as I thought, the original manifolds are not gasketed.

Yes. You can buy gaskets for the exhaust manifolds. They came from the factory without gaskets. Felt pro makes a nice gasket for that engine.

Once you move other stuff out of the way and if all the bolts come out that have been there for 30+ years.

True but they were both were freshly machined surfaces. After years of heat cycles it will need a gasket to seal.

I'm having the same issue with my truck actually. Mine is a 96 f150 4x2 with the 4.9L. For me it ticks high when started and then less when warmed up but much louder and slower when in gear. I have pulled my manifolds and am going to replace the gasket. Good luck with yours

I’m pretty sure it’s the lifter now. I see on rock auto they have a camshaft and lifter kit.

Guess it would make sense to replace all lifters at the same time.
curious about degree of difficulty doing this and if I anything else should be done concurrently with the camshaft/lifter job since the engine would be opened up?
im sure there would be vacuum hoses I’d be moving out the way as well to do this job and maybe do those too?

Well if the chain has not been done yet I would say you are on barrowed time.

I have a motor with 277+ on it but the chain was changed when the timing cover had a coolant leak think around 100K.
It did not have a lot of play but we (dealer) were there so it was done.
