Replacing my gear oil, and not sure if I should put in the friction modifier. I thought I looked up the number on the tag once and the L meant Limited slip? But looking at the gears and such, I don't see anything that resembles a clutch or some fancy set of lockers. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
I agree with hav24wheel. In the 2nd picture from the top, there clearly are clutch packs in your diff carrier. It appears your vehicle is equipped with a 3.55 locking rear end.

Wow, I do see them now. I should have looked closer. I was just expecting them to be much larger.
I see them now. Well, hopefully I didn't ruin them by using carb cleaner, and was planning to finish cleaning with brake cleaner. Old oil left some nasty black film on most everything. After the fact I read certain cleanees will harm the clutches. Maybe I should read first huh?
Spealing of, 've read some places that say 4oz of modifier, while others say 8oz. Any idea what the right answer is? I'm using Lucas 75 140 full syn. Lube Gard says 8oz if more than 2 quarts of oil. Guess ill go with what they recommend.
The amount of friction modifier needed depends on the behaviour of the diff in your vehicle, if it is less smooth while turning on pavement than you like add more FM to make the clutch packs slip more smoothly.
Thanks everyone that replied, good stuff! The sealant I'm using (Permatex Gear oil gasket maker) needs 24hr cure time, so maybe I'll have my POS back on the road tomorrow.
