I think the bigger inconvenience would be to get police reports, fight with insurance at every step,
then find a replacement truck…or have Ford build you one in 6-mos to a year down the road. Could cost tens of thousands out of pocket between what insurance gives you and what a replacement truck is. Then, you have no truck for that entire time either.
I dunno, I think I’d rather flip a switch under the dash when parked away from home than deal with all that.
I had my truck broke in. Gave the police report. Insurance paid less the deductible. Never had to do a whole truck. I have had insurance claims before. Not really much fighting if you are reasonable.
I'm not sure how long it takes to find a replacement. With the internet, I don't have to go to 20 lots and kick tires. I narrow it down to a few used ones. As to the replacement cost being more than what insurance pays, such is life. You bought a $80K truck, used it for a while and it depreciates and you expect a full $80K? I don't. If I want new, I would pay the difference willingly to upgrade as though I were to trade it in. They are supposed to pay you approximately what your current one is worth less the deductible, give or take. Other items I have had stolen or lost, it has been that way. Although, I don't have experience with truck loss in the last 30 some years.
I have to pay to buy and install it. I have to remember to "arm' the thing and I have a wife that is mechanically inapt. Weighed against the odds of me losing that truck and the time it hasn't happened yet, I think the balance is in my favor considering how many vehicles I'd have to do that on over the last 30 plus years. I would have to remove it when selling. I have had a high of 5 cars at one given time. Wife has decreed that we pare it down to 3 so we don't have to maintain so many cars. This isn't my money maker vehicle so if it gets stolen, it isn't the end of the world. It's just one of the 3 not counting the trike.
Make crooks work harder and lock your truck with the manual lock or lock button on the inside door. Hopefully no code gets transmitted to clone with a flipper if your remote is out of the vehicle and you don't use it.
IF it doesn't detect the key, my C7 would lock it for me. Too bad Ford doesn't do that.
My kill switch doesn't inconvenience me. But its also not easy to find. I don't worry about truck getting stolen, I just don't want to give it away. I fully expect every time I park my 450 somewhere, its going to get broke into or someone tried to steal it. That way, I won't be so mad when it happens. Besides, an exact replacement is not possible now and the cost. Ouch!
I have been interested in purchasing one of ARod’s kill switches. How does it install to the truck & how does it operate?
All I can say is its simple and nothing happens if you try to start it without the key. Well a better description is everything happens, all kinds of warnings and tones sounding and it wont start. Sorry, but I'm not willing to post in public forum the details of the switch. What you pay for is the location to interfere with the system and a well made factory appearing wire harness with switch.
And here I am not even locking my doors on my truck or any cars we own.... Like others have said that's why I have insurance, there are bigger issues and worries in life than worrying about my truck being stolen. Perhaps if I lived in a larger city or a place where vehicles are stolen more often it would change my mind, but probably not, but it's whatever floats your boat. If someone wants to steal your truck bad enough it's going to get stolen no matter what preventative measures are taken.
I have too much invested in my vehicles to let some tweaker destroy it. I created this simple circuit for a kill switch. This requires 2 switches to activate & can be hidden switches or use a factory circuit (power window, brake pedal, etc). Car switch input 1 and input 2 are tapped into either existing switches or an added switch and both must be activated for the latching relay to activate & latch on. The load can be any item that will disable the car when not live (fuel pump, ignition, etc). Once the key is switched off, all power is removed and the relay must be latched again manually.
The optional LED indicators are + power out for each status - green "clear" and red "armed"

Very cool. The self arming aspect is attractive and the status LED's.
On my old 2006 6.0 I added a relay to the FICM ground. This disables the injectors so it will turn over but wont start. Not sure on the newer diesel controls, but you might be able to locate what controls the injectors and do the same.
And when they break in and find they can't steal it, they can be vengeful and burn the damned thing to the ground. I am more concerned over car jacking than theft. Thats why mine locks the shifter when the key is outside. They can try to take it, but will find themselves looking at the wrong end of something deadly when they exit.

I had that on my 01 Excursion with the 7.3 diesel. On the F6 chip, I can switch to a "no start" setting and pull the control box for extra security. I played with it a couple of times in over 10 years and forget about it.

Avoid seedy areas and leave a gap between you and the car in front where you have an escape route. Vehicle is only an object. My life, wife and dogs, not as easy to replace.
