I was thinking of making a cheap kill switch, just something to make a thief work just a tad bit harder and result in an extra minute or two before they crank the truck up (cause no system is thief proof).
how would you go about tying into the starter for the kill switch? what gauge of wire should i use to run to the switch?
I plan on using something like this as the switch since it has a removeable key that might make it a little bit harder than just a hidden toggle switch.
The fuel pump idea is almost fool proof. I used one on my 67 conv. Use a "key" switch like you mentioned. I also know a guy who used (rewired) his cigarette lighter as one.
On my conv. (carb) it had enough fuel to start and get down the road about a 1000' and then die. A thief at that point wouldn't bother. Obviously wont work that way on a FI engine.
Get a battery brain with a remote. I have the non-remote style, but with the remote you can disconnect the battery entirely.
Also I have a tremco anti theft device that locks out my shifter. So they can get it started or I can leave my engine running, but unless you know the trick, it will not go into gear. Instead of bribing a LEO outfitter, you can wire a switch to the brake pedal sensor. With that circuit open, the lockout will not receive voltage from the switch and not allow the shifter to move. The Tremco is a little nicer, but that was one option I was tinkering with.
