Installed Spyhunter today

When visiting another forum I would get a message that we have detected spyware on your computer. A ad would direct you to get a free download to scan for it.

So today I got the software from www.enigmasoftwaregroup.com. After installing it Spyhunter found 11 items. Two were in the registry. Both were SearchEx... AcrolEHelper...

They were labeled a serious threat by the software. The other 9 were in cookies. You have to buy the full version for $29.95 to remove them. I went ahead and got the full version. Cookies are no problem to delete but I didn't want to mess with the registry. G/f's computer had 126 in the registry, none in the cookies.

I used ad-aware at home and work. Its free and removed over 36 spyware programs, not to mention several hundred cookies I could never have found. http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

I settled on Ad-adware after sever different applications did not fix my pc at work. Our IT guy said he never heard of it.
I actually found out about it from Screensavers on Tech TV.

Thumbs up Thanks Guys.

I guess that I had never really thought about it but now that ya'll have brought it up guess that its time I got serious about it. Can you get the Ad-aware at the local stores or is it only by mail order/internet? Am interested in this one.

Ad-ware is free and can be found at the Lavasoft web site. Do a search and you should find it.
Also, good free antivirus software at:

Thanks for the info guys. I'm not a computer guru. All I can do is point and click.
Installed the ad-ware. It was easy. And free.
Now I have "stuff" in quarentine. Do you delete or save that stuff?
Any info would be great.

I would delete, no point in preserving a spy.

I ran ad-ware for almost 6 months, it's a very good program.
I just switched to Spybot, first run it detected 36 items that ad-ware didn't pick up.
Spybot does frequent updates and it is free.
Got mine from www.download.com (search for spybot)

Ad aware also does frequent updates. No virus checker spy finder software will continue to work properly if you don't update it's definitions.

I personally run both Ad-Aware and Spybot, Usually simutaniously(sp). They both pick up things the other doesnt. I am very happy with the both of them. I downloaded both for free at pcworld.com. Its a magazine that has a whole download section where you can see user comments and number of downloads. I also just downloaded zone alarms firewall from thee and it is much easier to use than norton and stops things norton didnt.
