So the driver's seat on my 2014 F250 is showing its age from normal wear & tear. Cloth slightly ripped on outside edge and the supporting material doesn't offer much support. Would I be better off trying to find a good used replacement seat or have the existing seat re-upholstered? It's electric.
Any thoughts on going with a replacement seat? Current market cost? How much work is involved? I'm concerned that a replacement seat will just have the same problems.
Any thoughts on going with having it re-upholstered? Does the seat have to be removed or can the work be done with the seat in the truck?
Thanks

I did Katzkins leather upholstery myself. Seats removed and took opportunity to replace carpet. Also replaced drivers seat bottom foam. Also added electric heated elements to both front seats. I think I sourced my Katzkins leather from ShopSar. Very happy with results.

The thought of adding heated seats did cross my mind.
You can buy new foam (search for seat cushion 2014 f350) and the cloth. Here's an ebay auction for the cloth, claims made in US https://www.ebay.com/itm/264979495706
Beyond that you might need hog ring pliers (not sure)
I did coverking rhinohyde. They fit like a glove in my 2003 lariat. You could add the heating pads as well. Going almost 2 yrs and they still look new. If you want to spend a bit more the Katskins are the way to go. The only issue with covers is you'd want to do all seats to match.
I went with this outfit, they have a 5 star reputation,
I like it that they require you to take photos of what you want done, so that they can color match and get the correct fabric.
Search Google and buy new seat foam and the bottom fabric. It should only take you 30 minutes to remove the old stuff and put the new parts on, hog ring kit can be found for like ten bucks
The cheapest & quickest way would be to find matching replacements in the yard or on an app like letgo, plenty of large part hoarders selling on there.
If you can't find anything suitable, reupolstering isn't difficult it just takes some patience. It'll definitely be cheaper than a new or professionally done unit.
One thing I did on a past vehicle when the butt bolster wore out was stuff it with shopping bags until the right "feel" was present then sewed in a patch of leather over the damaged area.
Held together until the truck was stolen, so about 2 years. I'm sure it would have lasted much longer if I was able to get it back.
I had mine re upholstered. The shop that did it put in a more dense foam that what was OEM. Seat feels great but the heating and cooling do no penetrate the more dense foam. Something to be aware of if you are also replacing the foam.
