Anyone willing to tell me where the ground is connected to the frame of the truck. I can get my lights to work if I put a wire to the trailer. The hitch is rusty enough that I'm not getting a ground through it. Plus would like to have a wire ground that way I know the lights are working all the time. I have a little blaster that will clean up the hitch. But still want to get factory wire up and running..
The ground should come from the truck through the 7-pin on the connector at the 7 o'clock position. If you get a ground by connecting a wire from the truck frame to the trailer frame then I would start looking at the ground wire on the trailer side where the 7-pin cable terminates (on the trailer).

Well I bought new lights for the trailer. Sanded a place on the receiver of truck put the wires together on the lights They will work if i ground to truck but not through 7 pin or 4 pin so it is the truck. Was wanting to know where its grounded because once I'm down on the ground I'm there. Be nice to be ready. Hope its not above the spare as looks like its never been down. I blasted the rust off of the receiver tube with black oxide from the lumber store and hf blaster. Just the first 3 inches. If its broken wire will put in a easy spot to maintain. Hoping for a picture of location and socket type with size.
I do not know where ground is, but you could skin back the trucks wiring harness, splice in an additional wire to the ground wire on truck plug, and attach to frame. After I make those type of frame connections, I like spraying them with rustoleum paint to seal them.
I would unhook the connection behind the 7/4 pin socket and see if everything is working on the wiring harness, chances are the 7/4 pin socket end is corroded inside the connection and replacing it would solve your problems.
