I have use 5/16" or 3/8" steel line hanging on the tube wrack with brake tubing at Advance Auto or other stores ... but I have used copper and have seen other guys run copper off a roll and pad it at clamps. . If protected and supported, I see no harm with copper, it more than works. It doesn't rust, it can be painted or polished and cleared. Rodents don't eat it either. These trucks pull fuel through the tubing. No pressure like brake tubing. Just support it so it's not waving around or slapping steel.
I have a 300 gallon propane tank out in the woods .... a copper line runs to the house, since 1991, burried in the ground. I did run it through a garden hose so a rock diidn't rub it. I do not think I'd run steel like that.
