Hey everyone!
I've got a buzzing sound coming from my PCV valve. When I pulled the valve and gave it the shake test, it rattles freely.
The buzzing is constant (with the engine running of course) and seems to be from a vacuum in the line not from pressure out of the valve cover like from blow-by. Could this be a EGR related problem? I've had my SES light come on a few times over the summer.
I did a search in the FAQ with only one result.
Any thoughts?
Get a new one, there is (from what I understand) a check valve in there. So excess pressure will go out but as the motor cools it will not suck back in. The spring may be bad? Worst case you go to Auto Zone buy it put it on and test. If it does not work return it.
Make sure you check for splits and/or crushed pcv hose. It has a hard bend just behind the throttle body that does get hot and cracked after awhile, mine did. When the truck was off it looked fine, but when running it would crush the pipe in causing an overrich condition (giving 2 trouble codes). The pipe w/pcv costs about $12 at a dealer. The hose of course is pre-formed so it'll fit right. Good luck!
I had the pcv hose problem, (a large tear in the hose right at the bend) and replaced that.
I'll try the new pcv valve trick. I've got a SES light on now so a trip to AZone for a free test is in order.
Thanks for the replies.
