AutoEnginuty "Tuneup"?

Last week I ran an AE injector buzz test, plus a cylinder contribution test.

I didn't drive the truck after testing, just left it in the driveway. Next morning it started up very fast, and has started very fast ever since. I'm fairly well tuned into how the truck is running and starting and I don't think it's my imagination. In the past I've always had to crank it for a couple of full seconds and now it fires almost immediately.

Is there any logical explanation for this? I'm thinking that maybe the buzz test might have vibrated some injector tip deposits loose.

By coincidence I ran into the previous owner last night (a friend) and he asked about the truck and mentioned he'd had trouble starting it in the winter. I told him no, it starts fine for me. Most the improvements I've made to the truck since I've owned it have come from what I've learned here.

Thanks,

Bob

From here ... http://oregonfuelinjection.com/pdf/f...diagnostic.pdf

Running several buzz tests cold will sometimes free up the injectors. This is a typical high miles problem particularly with inadequate oil change intervals.

Jim,

Thanks. I've read that Oregon Fuel Injection document before but the part about buzz tests didn't sink in. So there is some evidence that a buzz test can do some good. I only did one buzz test because I read somewhere that repeating buzz tests can do some harm due to the dry injectors. But thinking about it, I doubt they are dry enough to cause any harm.

My truck isn't real high mileage, about 174,000. I've had it not quite a year and I don't like to think it's suffered from poor maintenance in the past but maybe so.

madpogue, no overheating or rubber smell here, looks to me like your post got accidentally posted in the wrong thread.

Wow, that's weird. Not just the wrong thread, it was intended for an entirely different forum. Dunno WHAT happened there.
