An FE block, size unknown.

The "E17" mark should be 4 characters, such as "8E17".

"352" appears on all blocks up to a certain point after 1971.

It looks like someone put aluminum heads on it, so it could be reworked into something quite different than what it was originally.

Try the wire down the plug trick as described above in the FAQ.

Am I missing another casting number somewhere? My friends father built this motor and passed away from a jeep rollover shortly after. I'm trying to help them i.d. some parts.

A closer look shows the date code as 2E17. Two dots making it 1972. May 17th 1972

I see it now---thanks!

In '72 it would be a 360 or 390 filled with sunken pistons. Clearly it's been reworked--how deep you'll only know if you pull it apart.

If there's still any question ablut the displacement (360 or 390) and since the pan's off, just look at the rods. Also the back of the crankshaft.
