What is this sensor?

Back of the engine, just behind the TBI. Single wire, is not associated with the temp gauge.

Oil pressure switch. The wire below and to the right of it goes on the switch (in relation to your picture angle).

Circled in red is a vacuum port that someone took a spark plug boot and electrical tape it looks like and made a homemade vacuum line.

Heck, I missed that. I'm so used to seeing the spark plug boot used for the PCV valve for the last 17 years on my 2.5L Oldsmobumble that it never struck me as out of place.

In 2002 I had a 1995 monte carlo that ran like crap one day out of the blue and I popped the hood and heard the a vacuum hiss. I just happened to have a box of plug wires from a 460 I had at the time and I cut the wire and stuck the spark plug boot on the vacuum port that was sucking air and forgot about it until this post and I sold it in 2004?

I just replaced every inch of vacuum line last year on my OBS with fuel hose so thats what stuck out to me. I didnt know if that was the "wire" we were looking for.

Is this the wire?

I believe there are 2 temp sensors and 1 can mess with the PCM.

Or oil pressure sensor?

That is a oil pressure switch. The wire for it is laying close by in the picture.

Oil pressure switch

Thanks to all for the guidance. This is the oil pressure switch. It turns on and off the red "oil can" light on the dash. There's 3 other temp sensors between the TBI and the distributor. Two communicate with the computer, and the third for the temp gage on the dash.
