Progress Thus Far
Thought I'd take a moment to share some of the progress to date on the F100. It''s not perfect, but considering its me and my 14-year old daughter doing the work with no prior knowledge, I'm pleased. I guess its a 25 footer - looks really good from 25 feet. But it's progress. The final color will be red - we're going to sandblast and repaint - but we've been using the truck as a canvas to practice paint technique and learn.
We're going to tackle the starter this weekend and hopefully we'll get it running again.
Appreciate all your help and suggestions along the way to get us this far.
Onward and upward.
Have a great day and weekend!

Haven't been here in a bit...work really gets in the way. My daughter (14) has been working on the truck. We're. not going for showroom but for never painting before, I'm really proud of her work (wife helped too).
We're going to remove the NC plate - I just keep it there so I don't lose it - and do some touch up but its coming along. I really like the 2-tone. And I'm glad we went with Red. I'd told her that she could pick color and landing on red was a much better alternative to Hot Pink!

As for paint I went to NAPA got their primer, harder and the paint. I took the paint codes for a few colors I had in mind - rangoon red, rosso corsa (Ferrari red) and the Philadelphia Phillies red. I'm a marketing/pr guy so I know PMS from working with designers and logos. Truthfully rangoon red is a bit darker but Ferrari red and Phils red are nearly the same - off by just a percent or 2 in the red hue. NAPA gave me a gallon of the paint and a hardener. We rented all the equipment we needed to paint from national rental and went to it. We did this on our street so by no means was it perfect environment - and we're not car/paint folks. In fact until we learned how to spray we painted our grass and street in a few places (lol) and we had to address some runs which I used a razor blade to correct between coats. Truthfully, the vehicle had some really nice patina (with the red oxide primer showing thru - see prior photos) so I was torn on whether to just stay with patina or switch. But I'd promised my daughter she could pick a color - when she said hot pink I quickly said a color or shade of color from 1966! She wanted a hallmark truck so she felt it should be red and white. So red and white it is. Im also not allowed today Ferrari red because we have a ford and she doesn't feel it appropriate to say Ferrari red. Phillies red is fine, but Ferrari red is not allowed. lol.
I'd say what everybody on here has said, it's all a personal thing, if you want patina keep it, if you want to repaint, repaint. Important thing is to make it your own.
Plus, you can always redo it later.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Due to the EPA, this is the same paint that vehicles assembled in the US, Canada and Mexico and sold new in the US have been painted with since the late 1980's.
I'm aware of people that took their trucks to Arizona, so they could have them painted with acrylic enamel or acrylic lacquer.
I know right?!! Sooo many more things are dangerous in Kalifornia that aren't anywhere else! Like a brain..
