I'm getting used to the new to me truck (had about seven months now). I added a CTS3 Gauge (not tuned), and have been following the advice here on delta between EOT and ECT, and now have some concerns.
I did the flat road test for 30 miles and the delta sits between 12 and 15 degrees, with it touching 16 degrees briefly if I go up a mild hill.
But ... I took my 8500# trailer on a trip to Redwoods country in northern California last month. I found on the trip there from Washington that the delta could get up to 23 degrees. More concerning, my oil temps on a couple of steep climbs on I-5 hit 237 and lived around 230 in the hilly areas. The coolant got up to 220 or so. Things cooled off pretty rapidly after the climbs were done, but its time to ask for some advice.
I called the local diesel shop and they said its time for a new egr. Im not so much doubting them as wanting second opinions. The previous owner had the egr "serviced" about 25,000 miles ago. The same shop said they are not fans of the bypass filter (the truck has been bulletproofed, but no egr bypass).
Any thoughts on what needs to be done or mods to do?
