DPF Nightmare
Thanks to everyone for the feedback and insights. Senix you were bang on with the parts delivery! Santa visited for sure.
As this thread took a somewhat off topic path of Gas vs Diesel I say each to their own. I will not be departing with either the 5th or the F450. To simply suggest dumping the diesel to get a gasser is an individual opinion with no right or wrong choice. I have owned an SD w/6.7 since 2011 and have never looked back.
thanks again …… case closed …….. hopefully forever!
That makes perfect sense. Glad they actually explained it to you. A wet SCR is a bad thing, and from what I found, the SCR and DPF are in one unit so to replace one, you have to replace both. So the DPF wasn't bad, the SCR was, which was affecting the DPF too.
I can respect you personally prefer the diesel engine, but I have multiple gas engines that do comparable work and get reliably from point A - point B all the same as a diesel engine. Please bring forth lifetime operating cost records of a 6.7L that has served 400k miles and ill gladly spend the time to scan in all my records from the four 6.8L I have that are in excess of 400k miles to compare.
My '12 6.7PSD with `260k miles and the only diesel equipped specific failure was 3 EGT sensor failures (Replaced fourth sensor proactively) and a Nox sensor which were known failures for '11-'12 trucks and proactively replaced the intake tube before a long trip pulling a camper. The other repairs that are non diesel specific was far more expensive repairs.
I made an appointment at the dealer a week out... They only ordered the sensor and said they would call when it arrived and do the recall at that point. They never called. Called them and scheduled again. They changed the Nox sensor and performed the update. Now I am 4 or 5 times at the dealer for the same code. It's been broke since June 30. It makes it 75 miles and then throws the P20EE code. They have uploaded everything to Ford but they continue to throw sensors at it but there is some other underlying issue that they are not addressing.
Usually, I have had great service with the dealer so I had let my guard down on obtaining the records and checking for accuracy that the issues were adequately documented and the mileage was accurate on the Service order. It is a clear case of a lemon but was not documented appropriately. Ford will not lean on them for anything. I can't get the service records for my visits. Ford "customer care" is ineffective and overall rude. The case is "escalated" but it seems to mean nothing. They have some known issues with the DPF system and are hiding something.
If you own one of these trucks, learn from my mistake. Don't be as nice as I was. Make sure everything is documented regardless of your relationship with your dealer. Make sure your concern/issue is on a piece of paper and the mileage on the form is accurate. Make sure they document the visits accurately with Ford so that it makes it into the Ford Pass service history so that "Customer Care" can see how many times you have to go to the dealer.
This is my second F350 Diesel. I wouldn't buy another Ford. My 1989 International 1854 is far more reliable.
