I was looking at Injectors Direct since they are recommended on FTE. Are the "OEM Motorcraft Remanufactured" for $1,499.99 reliable in your guys opinion? I don't drive the truck as much as I used to these days but I do want reliable injectors. What else will be needed to replace the injectors? Cleaning brushes? Thank you in advance.

I bought a set several years ago and returned them. They were shipped, wrapped in bubble wrap in a USPS flat rate box, no evidence at all that they were Motorcraft.
Apparently most, if not all, of the injector suppliers have their own re-manufacturing process and/or "vendor". Since they start with Pure Power or Motorcraft injectors, they can call them OEM remanufactured injectors, whether or not they are remanufactured by the same company (Pure Power) used by Ford or International.
After the discussion with Injectors Direct, I would have no qualms buying their new Pure Power injectors. As far as remanufactured injectors, I would probably buy from one of the following 3:
- Dealership (one of the well known one with an on-line sales presence)
- Holders Premium
- Full Force
At least these are the conclusions I have reached after doing my own checking into it. Just remember, there is NO OPTION that has a 100% perfect record. If you really dig, you can find someone that had a bad experience with ANY of the above products. Then you have the question "Was it the product, or installation error?". Who knows. I have no problem looking at ANY significant purchase these days as a risk, and that all I can do is minimize the odds of a bad experience. It helps to choose companies that have a good warranty and a good track record of honoring it. I woke up on the cynical side of the bed.
Found the bad o-ring. Half of it was missing on one side or it just shrunk. lol This was giving me the "hot hard starts".
I pulled all 8 injectors. Here are 4 of them. These are the original injectors, just shy of 299,000 miles. How do they look? Even the o-rings don't look too terrible.
I should have the new ones here the end of this week. I have the brushes coming today to clean the injector tubes, any tips on doing this? I'm a little worried about get crap inside the motor. Oh, when I was removing the first two injectors the two zip ties just crumbled and felldown in the head. I was able to get most of them out but will that be a major issue if there is still a small piece or two in there? I'm not worried about it getting into the oil pan, I saw the filter on the bottom of the pickup tube when the oil pan gaskets were replaced. They wouldn't make it past that filter.
Just an update, I received the Holders Premium Injectors 2 days ago. They came in boxes with their logo and nicely bubble wrapped. Each one sealed in a plastic bag. Their customer service is fantastic. Well, got her buttoned up today then used that test wire to prime the oil rails. 3 15 second bursts then primed the fuel filter 3 times. It fired up in about 7 seconds to a nice smooth idle. Didn't hiccup at all. It idled for about 15 minutes before I went for a drive. These injectors are quiet. I can't believe how smooth it runs now. lol
Here's a recap of what was done;
An HPOP from CNC. OEM J-Tube. OEM Dummy plugs and Stand Pipes. OEM IPR Valve. HHC Nipple cup seals - I noticed the top o-rings in the other 7 injectors were also about to go. They were very rough around the tops of the orings. I read worn nipple cup seals will cause this. Also, replaced the bearings and seals in the turbo and cleaned it up (Also rebuilt it 5 years ago and replaced the unison ring and veins). Almost 300,000 on the original turbo.
That's about it, just wanted to update the thread. Thank you everyone for the help!
Thanks for the update. I'd be curious, if you track it, the before and after fuel mileage with the new injectors after you get a few thousand miles on them
I've been using Fulio for the past 6 years to keep track of the fill-ups and mileage. I put a reminder on the calendar for the first week of May so I don't forget to come back here and give an update.
Here's an update with the new injectors. Truck turned 300,000 miles 2 weeks ago!! I can tell there's an increase in power. Very noticable. More than I expected.Fuel mileage has gone up by .5 mpg, I was hoping for more lol. I have been filling up at a gas station that uses 10% Ethanol in the gas. I'm thinking the gas station (Rebel in Las Vegas) is adding Ethanol to the diesel. The price is around 40 cents cheaper than Chevron so it would make sense. I'll go back to the Chevron and see if that makes a difference.
Overall I'm very happy with how it runs. The oil is Rotella T6 15w-40 with Archoil 9100.
