Hex snapped off cap and resorted to breaking the cap to remove, it was battle royal. Think I broke the main housing in the process; it still leaks. Won't start either. I hate this fuel filter arrangement, upper assy is great. If I'm going to replace it all, why not go aftermarket and that brings me to this question. Which/whose kit? Or is the evil I know better than the evil I don't know?
Since you are in that position now throw it all away and install a fass system.
It cost me a bunch of money and time, I was stubborn and didn’t do it at first.
I went through 3 lift pumps and relay modules plus a tow bill.
Been running fine for about a month and 3k miles so far.
Morel of the story is the replacement fuel pump are junk and the bolts holding the filter assy together are
not stainless steel and will need replacing any way. Just replace it now.
Edit… Are we talking 17 and up, or 11 to 16?
My comments were 17 style filter back at fuel tank
as I had just been through that.
Check out the SPE dual filter kit that puts both filters in front of the tank and eliminated the top engine filter and chances of broken clips leaking down the road. It is a direct fit replacement too, drops into the same bracket the factory one does.
I like the SPE kit myself as well but it's only for the 17 plus trucks. H&S makes the aluminum housing upgrade kit with a Cat water separator, like linked here, for the 11 to 16s.
I did buy an extra DFCM housing cover along with extra drain plug and WIF sensor from Diesel filters online.
But the oil on the housing threads, which I read about here, makes the housing come off a lot easier come filter change time.

Reason: correct the info

Never use stainless steal bolts on your truck unless you use anti-seize. And never ever use them for header bolts or anywhere where they get hot. You will never get them to come out. I wouldn't use them for lug nuts ether.

I am assuming this is the 12 in the sig?
Here is one option. IMHO I would replace the cat water separator with a fleetguard FS1000 or equiv. The FS1000 has better emulsified water stripping than the cat.

Didn't catch that it was a 12 MY, yep, the SPE won't work. Post #2 showed the H&S for the 17+ so through me off that it was a 12. The post above me has the correct replacement.

Did not realize the first H&S link posted was for 17 plus...so I understand why you said what you did...
