Carburetor

I recently bought a new carburetor for my 1983 300 L6. It is the one that is gold-ish or brass looking in color or . The carburetor that is in the truck is slightly different than the one I bought. I bought the carburetor that is part number 7-7587 from autozone and was wondering if I should've bought part number 7-7763. I'm not sure what the difference is on the two carburetors but the one I bought and the one I have do appear to be different because it is missing some brackets and screw holes.

Has this engine been converted yet? What distributor are you running?

Has the engine been coverted to what? I'm pretty sure it is a duralast distributor, not sure of the exact part number.

Your engine was originally computer controlled. It had a special carb with the throttle position sensor and a idle control motor, and a bunch of sensors all over the engine. The distributor was computer controlled with no vacuum line going to it, just a rectangle module mounted to the side of the distributor with a bunch of wires going to it. If you have a bunch of stuff missing and have a non-computer carb on it, then to make the engine run it's best the distributor needs to be swapped out to a conventional non-computer type distributor.

Ok I'll have to take a look at it tomorrow and let you know, but I didn't think that a truck from 1983 would be computer controlled at all. It appears to be all manual and mechanical components but I'll take a gander at it.

Wait a minute. A 1983 would not be computer controlled. I was looking at the quote in my previous post and it says you bought a carb for a 1986? Did I answer your post early and then you went back and edited the post later? Anyway, a 1983 would not be computer controlled, a 1984 thru 1986 would have carb and have computer control.

I was trying to take those carb numbers and work backwards. One of them fits a early 1980's L6 engine, but I can't find the application for the other one.

I think it would be best to post up a picture of the old carb and the new one, from the front corner of the throttle side, so we can see what you have going on.
Why are you replacing the carb? Vacuum leak at the throttle shaft to base plate or something else?

Also while at it 1 of the dist. if it has vacuum hose or just wires.
