I guess I don't see the logic here, spending $60k+ on a truck but not wanting to throw a couple hundred on a tire to fix the issue correctly. I'm different than most now though, I'd much rather do something correctly than do something that's "just good enough".
If you choose to keep the tire hopefully you get plenty of miles and no issues out of it.

A new tire is over $300 for the same Michelin tire. Its not about money - its just not something I want to spend money on I guess after only having the truck 2 weeks and dropping over 100K cash on a truck...but I degress...
I will replace it - but right now the truck is just being driven during the week with no load so the urgency to replace it is not there. End of February that will change and the tire will be replaced. I guess I should have clarified in my original post that I only wanted drive on it unloaded temporarily. In the grand scheme of things that tire would probably go its entire tread life and not have an issue...but who knows right?

I'm 99% sure that you wouldn't have any issues with that tire (as the tech told you) but why not just swap it with the spare and call it good? I have a small fleet of 10 trucks and in the past 30 years, I think we've used a spare twice.......most of the time the trucks are retired/sold/scrapped out with the original spare still in place under the truck. The risk of using that tire as a spare is infinitisimally small IMO

2 cents,

My tire guy came by today and he pretty much said the same thing..
He said the damage was like a scratch. The integrity of the tire is 100%
You are going to want to dismount and flip the fronts side to side every 10k and move a rear set to the front every 20k.
I guess since you have white walls you may want to push it to 15k and just move a rear set to the front.
You definitely don’t want them pounding weights on and off.
Also if you are running empty a lot consider lowering the rear psi maybe into the 50s so they wear more even.
I always got rid of the Nexen tires my rams came with and one shop really scratched up the passenger front wheel changing the tires out. I don't think some of these shops deal with dually wheels that often and don't take extra care with the front ones.
My past 2 Ram Duallys came off the delivery truck with 90 PSI in all 6 tires. I usually keep them at 80 on the front and 65 PSI in the rear even unloaded. My F350 had 75 PSI in the front and 65 PSI in the rear off the lot - so I was surprise to see that!
