Replace Tire or Not

I have one trip on my truck and about 1800 miles. I noticed one of the rear tires has a some damage to the sidewall..
The dealership took pictures to submit for a warranty claim which will be denied Iam sure.

Is this significant enough to replace the tire?

I would def replace it now. If you wait and at, say at 10K miles you have a problem, you'll be replacing more than one.

Any tire shop will measure the thread and give you credit back. probably have to put in another 50 bucks for a new tire.

The white you see for the raised white letters so I say it would be completely safe to run the tire. The outside rubber is to cover the white.

Huh, why would you think that?

Why would warranty cover damage? That’s not a faulty tire.

Yeah the best thing about the dually is you have a matching spare. At 1800 miles it should be ok to put it next to another one as well.

I would make it a swing before I reuse it for anything including a spare. I had a compact spare in a C4 Corvette that was new to me. Driving home one day, I got a puncture. No problem. Switch the tire with the spare. 10 miles later, it gave up the ghost. Unreliable is worse than not having, IMO.

Tires

I always have said, if you were going to build a house would you just throw down framing on the ground and build or would you build a solid foundation first. Tires are the foundation of a vehicle but yet a lot of people don’t want to spend money . Take your vehicle and Jack it up onto jack stands and you have some expensive yard art that does nothing. Without tires it’s nothing. Tires are cheap insurance for a $50,000 plus Super Duty Truck.

Don't care about the truck. I can make more money and buy another one easier than I can rebuild my body if it gives out at a bad moment.

If you have 20” wheels, your spare will be an 18”.

You do you and I will do me. That’s my opinion. Don’t skimp on tires.
