adaptive steering fault
2017 f350 Platinum 6.7
I have gotten the steering wheel fault a few times this winter. My wheel is out of line, have to turn a lot more without the motor in steering wheel working, heated wheel will not heat.
I take home and plug in and next day it is ok. This seems to occur with the cold winter days. Any research I have found seems to associate this with a loss of voltage. Maybe the batteries are getting bad?
Truck only has 83k and is parked in insulated garage during winter months.
Anyone here deal with this ? Thought I could get more than 5 years out of the batteries but could be wrong.

I had same problem. Started intermittently happening and then all the time. Replaced battery and didn’t help. Had to end up replacing the steering wheel with a new one and had a Ford mechanic program the new wheel to the truck. Working like new again.

I was able to find a new “old stock” on marketplace for $650 and a local mechanic who did the install/program for $200. I was going to install myself since this is very easy but seller said it requires programming to work properly. Took him like 15 min to install and 45 min to do the program. Everything working again. The mechanic said in his experience it is always the steering wheel that requires replacement when these problems occur.

Hope some new batteries do the trick! It has been fine but the weather has been good of late. I heard about the wheel change out doing some reading. Hope this is not the case as my bumper to bumper is done!!!!

Fingers crossed on the batteries. Here is another thread with similar issues. Looks like someone there had a source for steering wheels. Might be a good person to request link if you need to go down that road.
