2022 Steering Wheel

We just took delivery of a ‘22 XLT. Something surprised me, and I’m wondering if the same has happened to anyone else, and what you’ve done to address it. The steering wheel is very slippery! Any ideas?

I would guess that the guy prepping your truck for delivery applied Armor All or similar vinyl protectant to the steering wheel. That will result in a slippery feel. You could try a vinyl cleaner on the wheel to reduce the slipperyness.

Yup, I hated my XLT wheel so I swapped it out with an OEM leather one. Used my Ford Pass points on it. Took about 15 minutes to change.

Quick Google search for lariat steering wheel. Probably find cheaper on eBay or Craigslist.

Were you able to add any features, mainly, heated wheel?

For an XL/XLT I highly recommend a Raptor wheel swap. There a recent thread on it, as well as a metal thread with all the info.

What's a "metal thread"?

Any chance you could point me in the right direction. I found an old one, but it was 2018. Thanks!

OEM leather wheel material isn't great, leather in my 2015 RAM was much better quality.
Might look into a leather cover to put on the xlt wheel.

To swap in a heated steering wheel requires some additional parts and cost, also you must have the 8" Sync screen since that's where the on/off button is for the heat function. Do all XLT come with the 8" screen now?

Same here, swap is very easy (at least it was on my '19). I hated the OEM vinyl wheel, the Lariat leather wheel is much better. I kept the black trim pieces from the stock wheel rather than all the silver plastic crap that came with the Lariat wheel. I like the black look much better.

I'm also glad I did not get the Raptor wheel. It has a red or orange mark at the top of the wheel (center indicator) but I've found that the Super Duty doesn't always track straight and you have the wheel cocked slightly to keep it straight, especially on crowned roads. That stupid mark being off 90% of the time would just irritate me (and having a center indicator on a work truck is sort of silly to begin with, in my opinion). I would like the paddle shifters though...

"Metal Thread" is what autocorrect thinks "Mega Thread" should be Below is the thread link. This dog us who did the swap sounds like broken records because its an awesome mod. I did it for the looks and paddle shifters. I highly recommend this mod!

Thanks!

I’m not a paddle shifter fan, so I think I’ll stick with the Lariat wheel and apply my points.

Thanks everyone!
