This was just before changing the oil. Completed a 100 mile drive, truck sat 25 minutes to cool oil down a little. Still not consuming oil with only 8 quarts added last oil change.
I was on the job site this past week and had 4h locked in. I could here a slight grinding or squealing noise and only when in 4x4 mode. Got the grease gun out and gave the front ujoints a shot of grease. Ujoints are good. It's coming from the front driverside and after doing a little homework it seems these truck have this issue at times. Surprised I haven't read about it or stumbled across it in a thread before. The hub seal gets dirt/ debris and as much as I'm off road with this truck in nasty conditions at times it makes sense....sort of.
Here's a video showing the seal and repair. Unfortunately in my boondocking location I'm not really setup for this teardown/ repair. So I guess in my travels I'll have to get this fixed. 157,270 miles on the truck.
I just got my truck back from an alignment but my wife has been driving it more than me and she went through a drive through and heard a squeal. I hadn't heard it but then I rolled up to a drive up window and I heard it as soon as I rolled my window down. I noticed the driver's side hub was locked in and the axle shift was squealing everytime it spun past the same spot in the seal. I disengaged the hub and spun the shift by hand and replicated the noise. I squirted the crap out of the seal with Penetro and it stopped the noise when hand spinning the shift but I'm sure as soon as it dries out again it'll be back when in 4wd.
I heard mine when near a rock wall. It actually looks like an easy fix other than making sure the seal is put on straight and getting the axle back in place. It almost looks like that tool is needed. I don't lock my hubs in they're always on auto. I'll exercise the the **** on occasion so it doesn't freeze up.
It has been along time since I've damaged my own vehicle. Probably in the neighborhood of 500,000 miles or 12 years.
Pulled a bonehead move at 0430, total darkness a couple days ago of going a round some poles in a tight area and didn't see the second set of poles. It caught the front of the step tore it off and got the front passenger door pretty good. I didn't get a picture of pre yellow paint which was on both front and rear doors. It's all gone off the doors with elbow grease and 70% Isopropyl alcohol. I don't know how but only the front passenger door took all the damage. The rear door is just a tiny mark which some white paint will take care of it.
I believe if I can find a passenger front door from a salvage place it should be a fairly cheap repair. Are the 6.7 diesel emblems on the lower doors just stick on? Or I could just leave it on and have a hybrid.
I'll work on straightening the step holders and get another step. Then it won't look so noticeable....yea!
I'll say one thing without a step these trucks sit high up to get into.
Aside from replacing the step id say the hell with the door. You mentioned you're keeping the truck to 300k in one of the posts. Trade in is going to be a flat price based on mileage and that trucks off to auction with 300k on it to join the rest of the fleet trucks and their bumped and bruised bodies.

I hate dented vehicles but do agree with you.
I'm keeping the truck for sure. I enjoy driving it, now with 159,300 miles.

For sure if its going to bother you every time you see it do replace. I cant imagine what a takeoff door for one of these trucks would run you though? The sight of the crease and dents might be cheaper on you than the door is your wallet.
Actually looking on the web they're $500-1,200. Having a white truck helps. Thats why I was wondering about the 6.7 emblems on the lower door. If they're just stuck on that opens the choices even more.
They have been stick on for the previous generations. Always peeled them off of the company trucks to put DOT numbers in their place. I dont personally have any new generation diesel trucks so couldn't confirm for sure.
Check with "dent wizards" paint less dent removal. I don't know if they are nation wide but I've used them here and they do great
there are many dent removal companies out there.
