In June 2022, after decorating my driveway with engine oil puddles for a year I brought my 2017 3.5 Eco-boost in to the dealer to have the wonderful plastic oil pan replaced under the extended warranty. With another plastic oil pan. Before bringing it in I marked the oil filter with a Sharpie. Sure enough, even though the paperwork showed that the mechanic pulled a new filter from parts he didn't change it. Unfortunately I didn't check until I got home.
So now its been peeing engine oil all over my driveway for the last 2 months again. Brought it back to the dealer today for another oil pan replacement. Plastic I'm sure. Marked the filter again and plan on checking before I leave the dealer this time.
At this rate I'll never have to do another oil change. Every seven or eight months I'll just bring it back for a new plastic oil pan. Apparently Ford actually has a metal oil pan for these engines but if the job is being done under warranty Ford requires the dealer to use the plastic pan or they won't reimburse the service department for any of the repair cost. Way to go Ford....
Hope they get your pan corrected. It's a shame they do this, not all Dealers are the same. I'm not sure I would even assume that new oil is put back in, just sayin.
Dealer's service department just called. Yep, it's the pan leaking again. They had to order the pan and it just came in - don't know why they just don't order them in case lots! They said they're going to install the pan today but leave the truck on the lift for 24 hours hoping that they get a better cure in the the sealant. They'll fill it up tomorrow, take it for a test drive and inspect it before calling it fixed.
I'll probably be back well before the oil life monitor says I need an oil change. I have 0% confidence in the design or the repair.
I would pay the difference to have the aluminum pan installed.
My son-in-law has a 2,7 that started leaking. We were going to do it ourselves, but there isn't a single oil pan available in the country for a 2015-2017. Sadly, there is no metal alternative for the 2.7.

Unfortunately, there is no difference. According to the service manager, unless they use the exact parts specified in the Ford TSB it becomes an uncovered repair and Ford will not reimburse them for the repair. The going rate for the work is about $750. I'll bring it back every 6 months if I have to just for the pleasure of seeing the look on the service manager's face. And the free oil change.
Since this was a repeat of a previous repair, the deductible on my Ford ESP plan didn't apply. No charge. I've got two and a half more years on my warranty so given the reliability of the plastic pan repair I guess I can count on getting new oil and filter every 8 months or so. They put fluorescent dye in the oil so next time it will be easier to spot.
