tailgate interchange

I know this has been discussed, but I coundn't find it in the search.
Will the tailgate from a 60-66 fit (and look right) on a 67-72 f-100?

I think the one from a 65-66 will but I am not sure about 61-64. A 60 definately won't fit, it is more like a stepside with the chains and all. The 73-79 also fit and look ok to any non-Ford person

Yep, '65 - '79, the '65 and '66 will almost look right except for the letters.

IF you have a 65 or 66 that is in good condition, it is worth a lot more to guys with 65 or 66's than you. The later tailgates are still made by Dennis Carpenter, but the 65 and 66 are rare as hell. If you have a good one, I'll trade you a new 67-72 for it!

I'll have to find out for sure what year the truck is. The tailgate is pretty slick.except for a few minor dings at top. I'll probably go back by the salvage this weekend. I'm gonna guess 50 or 75$ will buy it.

Well, if its a 65, I might have to do a little southern migration and try and talk you out of it! Do post back. I have a nice used 67-72 that I was on the verge of putting on my truck. Let me/us know.

I was told today that the truck was a 64.
I didn't find a date of mfg. the warranty no. is f10ck521344.
I thought I would do some more checking before I buy the tailgate.
I did come home with a bendix steering box, I thought that was an interesting find. I just put power steering on my truck about two weeks ago.should go good in the next project though.

A 64 will be a solid front axle with leaf springs. A 65 will have twin I-beams.

64-72 will definitely interchange. The 61-3 non-unibody trucks used the 57-60 box which had a narrower tailgate.

Oh yeah, mike's right. '64 is when they came out with the new Styleside bed and tailgate. Sorry about that Lobuck76.

Is that a 64 BB? Check out that bumper!! I wonder if it is the same as the 65 and newer? I never saw one on a pre 65 before.

Yes the license plate says 1964, sorry it's so blurry. It's an advertisement and they exaggerated the width a bit.

The main physical difference between 64-6 and 67-72 is on the upper panel above the letters. The early ones had a thin lip across the middle of the upper area and the newer ones had an extruded bar across them. Not sure about the letters.
