The tailgate latch on my 2000explorer is broken. can someone please instruct me as to how I can get the tailgate open?

 

There should be an access panel on the inside of the door. take it off, then you will see the rods that go to the latches. pull/push them, and it will open. replace the plastic pieces on the ends of the rods. I have seen these pieces in the help section of advanced, and pep boys.
