94 Trailer Lights Troubleshooting
For whatever reason the 7 pin used some of the available factory wiring but they ran their own trailer brake feed and battery charge wires. I don't remember ever having a problem with it, but I haven't used it in years.
The 4 pin outlet is a t connector into the regular lighting harness.
I have set about setting up the 7 pin to use the factory wiring. I made a plug and play harness and got it installed today. When checking signals the turn signals have very little power, almost not showing on my meter. Marker lights and battery charge circuits checked out fine. Couldn't safely check reverse by myself and I am waiting for the new controller to check the brake signal.
I pulled the fuses for the trailer turn signals and checked the power there and got the same result. Almost no power. The trucks turn signals work fine and the turn signals on the 4 pin trailer plug work great.
Not sure what to check next. Your thoughts and suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!
Basically, they are tapped into your turn signal for vehicle, then run to the fuses.
Look for wire colours of LightGreen/Orange(LG/O), and Orange/LightBlue(O/LB).
(first colour is solid / second colour is the stripe)
If I am reading the diagram correctly the 2 circuits go out of the cab to the fuse box and then back into the cab and then back out of the cab again to the harness going down the driver side frame rail...
I will start with continuity testing... see if I can find the problem.
However, almost all of the wires are the wrong color on the replacement harness according to pin outs I have, which is hurting my head.
On my engine side C202 I have
Pin 1 - R/T
Pin 2 - R/B
Pin 3 - DB/G
Pin 4 - P/T
Pin 5 - Unused
Pin 6 - R/Y
Pin 7 - BK/G
Pin 8 - Unused
Pin 9 - R
Pin 10 - P/B
Pin 11 - BK
Pin 12 - Unused
From what I could find this doesn't match any other C202 diagram from a 94 or 95... thoughts?
I was mistaken about the pin mismatch at C202. I wasn't paying enough attention to what I was doing.
I put it all back together to move the truck, and now the trailer turn signals are working, so guess it was just a poor connection at C202 or C205.
Going to leave it alone until I encounter another problem.
